Token Metadata & Branding

Step 3 of 5 in the Token Creation Process

The Importance of Token Metadata

Token metadata goes beyond just technical parameters. It encompasses the visual and branding elements that make your token recognizable and professional. High-quality metadata helps establish credibility and improves discoverability across wallets, explorers, and exchanges.

On-Chain Metadata

RevShare stores your token's metadata directly on-chain and on decentralized storage (IPFS), ensuring it's always available and can't be altered or lost after creation. This provides permanence and enhances your token's legitimacy.

Token Logo

PNG, JPG or SVG (max. 2MB)

Logo Requirements & Best Practices

Technical Requirements

  • Format: PNG, JPG, or SVG (PNG with transparency is recommended)
  • Size: 512×512 pixels is ideal (minimum 200×200 pixels)
  • File size: Under 2MB
  • Shape: Square or circle with even padding around the edges
  • Background: Transparent or solid color

Design Best Practices

DO
  • Use simple, bold designs that work at small sizes
  • Ensure high contrast for visibility
  • Create a unique, memorable design
  • Use colors that match your brand
DON'T
  • Use copyrighted or trademarked images
  • Create logos too similar to existing tokens
  • Use complex designs with small details
  • Include photographic elements

A professionally designed logo significantly improves how your token is perceived. Consider hiring a designer if you don't have design experience.

Why Social Links Matter

Adding social links and a website to your token metadata provides several important benefits:

  • Credibility: Legitimate projects have public channels for community engagement
  • Discovery: Social links help new users find and engage with your project
  • Verification: Wallets and explorers use these links to verify token legitimacy
  • Listing: Exchanges often require social channels and websites for listing

Setting Up Your Channels

Before creating your token, it's best to have these channels already established:

  1. Website: Even a simple one-page site gives your project legitimacy. Include your token details, roadmap, and team information.
  2. Twitter: The primary social channel for crypto projects. Secure a handle that matches or relates to your token name.
  3. Telegram: Create both an announcement channel and a community group for discussions.
  4. Discord (optional): For more community-focused projects, a Discord server provides a structured environment for engagement.

Token Description

Token Description

A brief description of your token and its purpose...

Generated automatically but can be customized

Crafting an Effective Description

RevShare automatically generates a basic description for your token, but you can customize it to better represent your project. An effective token description should:

  • Clearly explain what your token is and its primary purpose
  • Mention the revenue-sharing mechanism and how it benefits holders
  • Be concise but informative (aim for 2-3 sentences)
  • Avoid excessive promises or investment-related claims
  • Include your project's unique value proposition

Example: "MyToken (MTK) is a community-driven Solana token with an 8% transfer fee that is distributed to all holders. Built on the Token-2022 standard, MTK rewards long-term holders through automated distributions."

The description is stored permanently on-chain and in IPFS, so take the time to craft one that accurately represents your project's vision.

How Metadata is Stored

IPFS Storage

Your token's logo and extended metadata are uploaded to IPFS (InterPlanetary File System), a decentralized storage network. This ensures your token's metadata is:

  • Permanent and cannot be altered
  • Resistant to censorship
  • Accessible from anywhere in the world
  • Not dependent on any single server or company

On-Chain Metadata

Core information like your token's name, symbol, and metadata URI are stored directly on the Solana blockchain. This makes them immediately available to all applications that integrate with Solana and ensures they remain accessible as long as the blockchain exists.

Metadata Standards

RevShare follows the Metaplex token metadata standard, ensuring compatibility with wallets, explorers, and exchanges across the Solana ecosystem. This standardization means your token will display correctly in popular wallets like Phantom and Solflare, as well as on explorer websites.
